PESHAWAR: The USAID’s Economic Recovery and Development Activity (USAID-ERDA) handed over nine completed agriculture infrastructure schemes to the farming communities of Safi and Ambar subdivisions in the Mohmand tribal district on Monday

The ceremony was attended by representatives from USAID-ERDA, the local government, and community members, said a press release. The infrastructure projects, which include interventions irrigating 200 acres of previously barren land in Ambar and Safi tehsils, will improve the agricultural productivity of the region. Additionally, USAID-ERDA provided vegetable and maize seeds to the farming community, further supporting the program’s goal of enhancing agricultural productivity.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Shakil Ahmad expressed gratitude for the ongoing support of USAID-ERDA, emphasising the lasting positive impact these projects would have on farmers’ lives in the Mohmand district.

A local farmer Malik Sahib Khan from Ambar tehsil said: “This project is a game-changer for our community. The improved watercourses and storage tanks will allow us to cultivate our land more efficiently and increase our yields. We are grateful to USAID-ERDA for their support.”

Engr Behram Jan, Water Management Specialist at USAID-ERDA, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to collaborating with local communities to enhance livelihoods and build resilience.

He hoped the implemented projects would empower farmers in Mohmand district and contribute to the long-term development of the region. In addressing these challenges, USAID-ERDA has been engaged in Mohmand, Khyber, Buner, Kohat, Bajaur, Orakzai, and Dera Ismail Khan districts to enhance water management infrastructure and advocate for sustainable agricultural practices.
