ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Friday recommended the elevation of Chief Justice Balochistan High Court (BHC) Naeem Akhtar Afghan to Supreme Court as a judge.
Meeting of the JCP, a constitutional forum recommending the appointments of judges in the superior judiciary, was held here in the Supreme Court in the chair of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa being the Chairman of the Commission.
The Commission recommended the appointment of BHC Chief Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan as judge of the Supreme Court besides recommending the appointment of senior Judge Shahzad Ahmed as Chief Justice Lahore High Court on the retirement of Chief Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti as LHC CJ.
During the meeting, the Commission also recommended extension of further three years in service to Justice Khadim Hussain Sheikh, judge of Federal Shariat Court. The Commission also recommended the appointment of retired Session Judge Ameer Muhammad Khan as judge of the Federal Shariat Court. The JCP was constituted under the 18th Constitutional Amendment for the purpose of appointment of judges for the superior judiciary.
After, the Commission recommends the appointment of judges in the superior judiciary, the recommendation is send to Parliamentary Committee on the appointment of judges for its approval.
