Three most wanted suspects allegedly involved in extortion were arrested during a raid in District East on Friday.
The raid was conducted by the PIB Colony police in collaboration with an intelligence agency at Baloch Para, Old Sabzi Mandi area. Police claimed to have seized two hand grenades, one automatic rifle, two 9mm pistols and bullets during the operation.
The arrested suspects were identified as Bilal, Aqib and Mehboob. District East SSP Irfan Bahadur said the extortion gang operated from Iran and the names of the gang leaders, Salim Chocolatey and Azim Chocolatey, were in the Red Book.
The officer added that the gang gave the task of extortion to a suspect, Iqbal Langra, who operated from Hub and collected extortion through the arrested men. SSP Bahadur said a trader contacted the police when he received an extortion call, after which a joint operation was conducted in Baloch Para.
He stated that the suspects had collected extortion money from various areas of Karachi and they were involved in firing at traders who refused to pay them. Cases have been registered against them and investigations are under way.
