ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa on Wednesday nominated Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court (BHC) Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan as a judge of the Supreme Court and called a meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Friday to consider the nomination.
The JCP headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan will consider appointing Justice Naeem Akhtar as a judge of the Supreme Court on February 23.
Three seats of judges are currently vacant in the Supreme Court while another seat will be vacant on the retirement of Justice Sardar Tariq Masood on March 11.
Two seats will become vacant due to the resignation of Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan and Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi, while one seat has become vacant due to the retirement of Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial and appointments have not yet been made on these vacant seats.
