Geo Television's new drama serial, the fantasy play Mor Mahal, was introduced to fans on Tuesday. It was a star studded affair, with director Sarmad Khoosat and lead actor Umair Jaswal accompanied by many strong elements of the cast including Hina Bayat, Soniya Nazir, Ali Saleem and Fizza Ali present. Meesha Shafi, caught up in Dubai, was unable to make it to the event in time.
Sarmad Khoosat, in his characteristic humour, indulged the audience in the making of Mor Mahal, emphasising on the process that began with auditions to the completion, which was witnessed in Episode One aired on Geo TV as well as PTV, simultaneously.
Khoosat tackled tough questions from the audience, including similarities being drawn with 'Mera Sultan'.
"Mera Sultan was a period drama whereas this is fantasy," he said.
"But any story with historical elements is bound to have some similarities, which are inevitable. The question we need to ask is has this been done in Pakistan before?"
Hina Bayat echoed the sentiment, adding that it was refreshing as actor to be able to do a role that is different.
Bayat plays Badshah Begum, the equivalent to Queen Mother, in the play.
‘Mor Mahal’ will air over 45 episodes and features around 25 original songs.
