LAHORE: Foreign experts on Tuesday highlight dam safety aspects and role of latest technologies in mitigating associated risks, a statement said.
They were sharing their experience at a function organised by Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) in collaboration with the Institution of Engineers Pakistan and Pakistan Engineering Congress.
Dr Martin Wieland, Chairman International Commission on Large Dam (ICOLD) empahsied the need to adopt new safety concepts for large dams all over the world.
Highlighting the scenario in Pakistan, he said that the country has large dams like Tarbela and Mangla where periodic dam safety reviews are necessary.
Besides safety arrangements for these dams, which are already in place, integral dam safety concepts may also be exercised. Integral Dam safety concepts include structural safety, dam safety monitoring, operational safety and guidelines for emergency planning, he added.
