Wahab launches campaign to cover open manholes across city
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, who is also the chairman of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), has launched a campaign to put covers on the open manholes across the city.
A spokesperson for the KWSC said, water corporation’s CEO Engineer Syed Sallahuddin Ahmed, COO Engineer Asadullah Khan and Chief Engineer Sewerage Aftab Chandio were present on the occasion of the launch of the campaign.
Wahab said the campaign for manhole covers had formally been started in all the districts of Karachi. He said that in the first phase, manhole cover campaign was being carried out in four districts — Central, West, Keamari and Korangi — and in the second phase, manhole cover campaign would be conducted in the rest of the districts of Karachi.
He said that manhole covers would be installed under the supervision of the executive engineer and elected UC chairman. The mayor asked all the stakeholders to work together for the betterment of the city. He said providing better drainage facilities to the citizens was one of his top priorities.
Wahab said steps were being taken on an emergency basis to improve drainage throughout the city and the city government was working on various projects in this regard. He maintained that the water corporation was working day and night for the betterment of the city.
