ISLAMABAD: The government committee on enforced disappearances has become inactive after the resignation of Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti. According to sources, the caretaker government has decided to reconstitute the committee and it was proposed to hand over its chairmanship to the defence minister. Earlier, the caretaker interior minister was its head. According to government sources, the caretaker government has decided to reconstitute the committee established to review the cases and recovery of forcibly disappeared persons.

Earlier, the defence minister was included in the committee as a member. It will include the caretaker minister of law and climate change as a member and the approval of the reorganization will be taken from the federal government.

It may be noted that a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa has been set up in the Supreme Court for the case against missing persons. The bench includes Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Musarat Hilali. Aitzaz Ahsan and others had filed petitions in the Supreme Court.
