Attack on police station in Bannu repulsed

BANNU: The police repulsed an attack on the Mandan Police Station in Bannu early Friday, police officials said.

Around 12 to 15 heavily armed terrorists attacked the Mandan Police Station in Bannu early in the day, they said, adding the cops manning the police station were alert and quickly took up positions to return the fire.

The exchange of fire between the cops and the attackers continued for several hours. The quick response by the cops forced the terrorists to retreat.

Swinging into action, the police launched a strike and search operation across the district after the attack. However, no arrests could be made.

Talking to the media, District Police Officer Syed Iftikhar Shah said that around 12 to 15 armed terrorists attacked the Mandan Police Station in Bannu city.

He said that the cops were alert and forced the attackers to retreat.

He said that no loss of life was reported in the attack. He said that the cops armed with thermal guns and other advanced gadgets had spotted the movement of the terrorists.

Iftikhar Shah that the morale of the cops was high and they were alert to tackle any untoward incident.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa particularly the southern belt of the province has experienced an uptick in terror attacks in recent months.

Political figures and election candidates have also come under attacks of late. Leading politicians have expressed concern over the worsening law and order in KP and demanded steps to beef up security to ensure the holding of peaceful elections.
