MQM-P, PML-N expedite efforts to form electoral alliance
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and the Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have sped up their efforts for entering into an electoral alliance.
A delegation from the MQM-Pakistan, comprising Amin Ul Haque, Javed Hanif and Hassan Sabir, met PML-N leaders at the Muslim League House in Karachi on Wednesday to discuss seat adjustments and other matters for the general elections scheduled to be held in February next year.
From the Nawaz League side, Nehal Hashmi and Ali Akbar Gujjar were part of the meeting. Speaking to the media after the meeting, Hashmi mentioned that positive discussions took place regarding various issues, and both parties expressed their reservations openly. He stated that Nawaz Sharif’s economic vision would also be brought to Sindh.
Criticising the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) without mentioning its name, Hashmi said that the people of Sindh had not seen any progress in the past fifteen years. He promised that if elected, his party would bring Shahbaz Speed to benefit the people of Sindh.
He remarked that the PML-N was against the system that had caused looting of resources. We will bring our own chief minister to Sindh, he claimed. Speaking on occasion, MQM-P leader Amin Ul Haque said that there is good understanding between the two parties. He mentioned a recent meeting with Nawaz Sharif where they discussed how to move forward in Sindh.
He said the PPP had ruined Sindh, the MQM-P and the PML-N were working on a joint strategy for the upcoming elections. He said the MQM had had past collaborations with the PML-N, and the people of Sindh were content with the alliance being formed against the PPP. Haq said we want to see Nawaz Sharif as the future prime minister, and the MQM-P will be in a better position in Punjab.
He said his party wanted to make government in Sindh and elect CM with the help of its allies. Both parties plan to meet again on Friday at 4pm in Bahadurabad for further discussions. “We are also planning to take the 18th amendment forward and seek more powers, not only at the provincial level but also at the lower tiers of government.”
