KARACHI: Advocate Shazia Hanjra has quit from representing the state as special public prosecutor in the Baldia Town factory fire case. The lawyer separated herself from the case after writing a letter to the law ministry. It is learnt that Hanjra was not provided due security as no police personnel was deployed for her protection.
It is further learnt that Hanjra was not satisfied with the process of the trial on the part of the prosecution as the Investigation Officer (IO) had not yet provided her the entire information and written reports regarding the investigation into the Baldia Town factory case.
Hanjra was appointed on the recommendations of the government of Sindh as a special public prosecutor. Sub-Inspector Jehanzeb is fulfilling his duties as Investigation Officer (IO) in this case and it was said that Hanjra was not informed about the issuance of no-objection certificates (by the IO) regarding the bail matters of the accused (owners of the factory). She was also dissatisfied with the delay of the trial hearings that allegedly caused violation of directives of the Sindh High Court in this case.
