Historical Shikarpur

Shikarpur is a historical city that had all the modern tools necessary to transform into a modern city – road infrastructure, educational institutions, bazaars, etc. It had a zoo that was established in 1871. The city also had a covered bazaar like the one found in the ancient cities of Samarkand and Bukhara.

Today the city is no different from other major urban centres of Sindh. Its roads are broken and educational standards are declining. All the animals in the Shikarpur zoo have been shifted to Karachi. Its historical bazaars are in a dilapidated condition. To stop this deteriorating situation, serious efforts are needed at every level of the government.
