The South Range police on Thursday claimed to have solved the murder case of an elderly woman, who was killed on February 23.

According to the police, Naeem Pervez alias Babu, has confessed to killing his grandmother, 70-year-old Salina,  and injuring his grandfather, Khursheed Alam, during a robbery bid at their flat in Salala Apartments, Cantt Karachi.

During the course of investigation, the suspect was arrested and he disclosed that his maternal uncle, Zahid Pervez, had planned the murder, while his accomplice, Adrick Khurram, was also involved. The latter has also been arrested by the police, while the former is still at large.

The accused told the interrogators that he along with his two associates went to the flat and struck his grandmother on the head with a padlock and also injured his grandfather, who fell unconscious. The culprits then fled with jewellery, cash, prize bonds, cell phones and a laptop.

DIG Jameel Ahmed of the South Range said the bodies were found one day after the murder took place as a relative of the elderly couple, Asif, called Madadgar-15 and informed that they were neither opening the door nor attending any phone call. When a police team broke open the door, the man was found critically injured while the woman had succumbed to her injuries.
