‘Corruption a universal curse’
LAHORE
Punjab University’s Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS) in collaboration with National Accountability Bureau (NAB) organised a seminar “Devastating Effects of Corruption on Pakistani Society” here on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Dean Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences Prof Dr Zakria Zakir said the major reasons of fast creeping corruption in our society were political instability, unequal structure of society, lack of accountability and transparency, weak political institutions and absence of the rule of law.
Dr Zakria also said corruption was a universal curse and existed in all the countries as a common phenomenon. He said however, our society was facing wide-ranging deleterious effects of corruption that were seriously threatening smooth institutional governance and quality of life.
Deputy Prosecutor General Accountability Chaudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman said unless we rooted out causes of corruption, we could not root out corruption, adding that Pakistan could not progress without eliminating corruption.
Earlier, Deputy Director Awareness NAB Muhammad Sajid gave a detailed presentation on various aspects of corruption.
