LAHORE

A local lawyer has sent a legal notice to Shahid Afridi requiring him to apologise from Pakistani nation within 15 days over his ‘more loved in India than Pakistan’ statement.

The notice said if he did not tender apologies within the stipulated time, he would avail every legal remedy against him.

Afridi on Sunday had said during a press conference in Kolkata, the capital of India’s West Bengal state, that his team always enjoyed playing in India and was loved by Indian crowd more than back home. “We have always enjoyed playing in India and have been loved by Indian crowd more than crowd back home in Pakistan. Cricket has always brought people together and I think politics should be kept away from cricket,” he said.

Advocate Azhar Siddique in the legal notice alleged his act of holding political press conference was not only illegal but also without jurisdiction and an act against Constitution and public interest. He has exploited the sentiments of millions of Pakistani citizens and made them disappointed; so PCB may restrain him from heading the cricket team and playing cricket in the future and he shall be officially directed not to make any such statements, the notice said.

It further added that Afridi must seek heartiest apologies and show regret over the controversial statements so that the nation and specially cricket lovers could feel a sigh of satisfaction in Pakistan within a period of 15 days from the date of issuance of this notice; otherwise, we shall be constrained to take all steps, including filing of suits, writs as well as registration of case in view of the provisions of relevant law for the time being in force.
