Consisting of elected women Local Body councilors of capital city, Women Councilors Network was formed here on Monday.
A 100 plus councilors enthusiastically attending a function ‘Women councilors can make local governance gender sensitive’ organised by Pattan Development Forum nominated a 13-member Interim Body (6-each from PML-N and PTI and 1 from PPP) of WCN. The venue was decorated with slogans for women rights including supporting Sharmeen Chinoy.
Former presidents and office-bearers of Women Councilors’ Network also participated in the event.
Fawzia Arshad, Simi Aizdi and Nargis Nasir addressing a press conference after the meeting vowed to turn Islamabad Capital Territory into an exemplary city. They declared that on women issues, they will work above party lines. They pledged to work for schools, hospitals and infra-structure.
In the question hour, a councilor said that we request the government to transfer powers to the elected representatives of the people so that they can serve their constituencies. Fouzia said that we are working on the basis of self-help. She said that women are academies which train future generations.
The women councilors also prepared a draft agenda for ‘Local governance in ICT’ and a mission statement that reads “Strive for just, gender-sensitive, environment-friendly, peaceful, transparent and participatory local governance.”
