Pakistan planning squash premier league
KARACHI: Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) is planning to organise Pakistan Premier Squash League (PPSL) in October.
“We are planning to organise this league since squash is losing its popularity in the country and we are facing shortage of players,” said PSF secretary Amir Nawaz while talking to ‘The News’ during his recent short visit to Karachi.
“We are in talks with the organisers of the recently concluded PSL and hopefully we will be able to make it a success.
“According to the initial programme, we will have four or five teams. Each team will have two foreign players and two or three local players,” said Amir.
The PSF secretary said the biggest issue for them was shortage of players in the country as there were only a few players available for international competitions. “I hope our efforts will bear fruit in the coming years,” he added.
Amir was of the view that if they could not organise PPSL, they would convert it into a small league with a few foreign players playing against Pakistani players.
“The first event of this kind is already being organised in April where five top Egyptian players will compete with top five Pakistani players at PAF Museum Karachi,” he added.
He said they would also organise a squash carnival before the series with Egyptian players at the same venue. “We will inaugurate our mobile four-wall, glass court in this carnival,” added Amir.
The secretary claimed that PSF was doing its best to boost this game. “We are organising four events with international participation carrying accumulated prize money of $100,000 from October to December this year,” he added.
