QUETTA: Twin explosions and shooting in different localities of the city killed at least two people and injured four others on Thursday, police said.
According to the police, an explosion took place at Mezan Chowk near a fire brigade office, leaving four people injured, two of them children. A motorbike and rickshaw were also damaged in the blast.
Balochistan Home Minister Sarfaraz Bugti said that explosives were planted in a motorbike which was detonated by using a time device. The injured were driven to hospital. Police sources said that four people were injured in Quetta’s Bacha Khan Chowk area in the explosion. Two children were also among the injured, they added.
Police officials said unknown miscreants had planted explosives in a motorcycle parked on the roadside. The bomb blast smashed glasses of nearby shops and vehicles parked on the road. In a separate incident, unidentified armed men opened fire on a house and killed two persons in the Khilji Colony area of Quetta.
Police officials said that the assailants sped away on their motorcycles after the incident.In yet another incident, militants hurled a hand-held bomb at the residence of a government officer in Wahdat Colony area of the provincial capital. Police officials said that the blast damaged a small portion of the house while no human loss was reported as a result of the explosion.—SABAH
