CHARSADDA: Chehlum of the martyrs of the Bacha Khan University was observed on the varsity ground here on Monday. Students, parents, university officials and other government officials attended the chehlum.
Vice-Chancellor, Bacha Khan University, Dr Fazlur Rahim Marwat, Deputy Inspector General, Mardan Range, Saeed Khan Wazir, and District Police Officer, Sohail Khalid laid floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada or the Martyrs Memorial.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Fazlur Rahim Marwat said that the sacrifices of the students and the staff would not go in vain. “The university’s motto is elimination of extremism through education,” he added.
He said that a single individual or institution couldn’t eliminate terrorism from the country. He stressed the need for collective efforts for the restoration of peace.
Faculty members of the Abdul Wali Khan University (AWKUM) donated Rs2 million for the Shuhada Fund of the university while AWKUM Vice-Chancellor Dr Ihsan Ali also donated Rs200,000 for the fund.
Test cricketer Younas Khan also visited the university and laid a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada.Talking to reporters, Younas Khan said that he visited the campus to express solidarity with the students. Around 22 students and staff were killed when militants attacked the Bacha Khan University on January 20.
