FAISALABAD: Consul General of China in Lahore Yu Boren has called for further enhancing win-win Pak-China cooperation in different fields.
Addressing a function to celebrate the 65 years of Pak-China diplomatic relations at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad here on Monday, he said that 2015 was the harvest year of the China-Pak ties. In April last, both countries singed the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor that would bring prosperity and further enhance the ties, he added. In Punjab, the Bahawalpur solar power plant, Sahiwal coal power plant and other important projects were being carried out with a large pace. He said that his country had established the first Confucius Institution (CI) at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad.
Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Dr Iqbal Zafar said that China and Pakistan were enjoying time-tested relations based on brotherhood. He said that the Chinese products were in high demand in Pakistan. He said that the UAF believed in knowledge diversification and 20 UAF faculty members had completed their PhDs from China and several were perusing their degrees there.
Chinese Cultural Attaché in Islamabad Zheng Guojin said that cultural ties between the both countries were further strengthening. He said that the CIs were being established in different institutions that would help cement the cultural ties. Later, students presented folk songs and dances of the two countries.
SEMINAR: Speakers at an international conference have warned of worsening crises of food and nutrient insecurity, health and environment issues amid changing climate if tangible steps are not taken.
They were addressing an inaugural session of a three-day conference on chemistry, biochemistry and biotechnology at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad.
UAF Vice-Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan urged the young scientists to come up with innovative ideas to fight the challenges. Islamia University Bahawalpur former vice-chancellor Dr Muhammad Mukhtar said that biotech must be made part of the school education. He said that pollution was playing havoc with the lives of the people and biochemistry was playing a vital role to address the issue.
Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi former vice-chancellor Dr Khalid Mehmood Khan, Dr Khalilur Rehman, Dr Asghar Bajwa, Dr Abdul Kausar Malik, Dr Amir Jamil and others also spoke on the occasion.
