ISLAMABAD: PML-N leaders on Wednesday posed a question as to why they did not present themselves for search who demanded searching Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

They said that PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s moves were a threat to the national security and asked him to show the registry of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s alleged London flat. They said the PTI chief was humiliating the national institutions and fooling the nation, adding that he was a hurdle in progress of Pakistan.

They added that the captain should not bring out rabbit from his cap like juggler and be ready for probe into his offshore company. Addressing a news conference, Muhammad Zubair and Daniyal Aziz said Imran’s actions had caused a huge loss to the economy of the country in the past and he was creating hurdles in the working of the national institutions.

Zubair said no constitution permitted the closure of the capital and there was no such example in history. He said the government had written letters to all the national institutions – including Supreme Court, Election Commission, State Bank, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan and Federal Board of Revenue – for an investigation into the Panama Papers.

He said it also moved a bill in the National Assembly and the PPP in the Senate to probe the issue. “Imran does not accept investigation by any national institution but wants the probe on his own terms and conditions.”

Daniyal said the audit report of Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital revealed that Imran had invested the hospital funds in a British Virgin Islands-based offshore company. Imran should clear his position before levelling baseless allegations against others, he added. He said there was reliable evidence against Imran that proved evasion of taxes and illegal transfer of money.

Daniyal said Imran was habitual of doing aboutface and did not stand up to his words of facing a challenge given by the PML-N. The PML-N leader asked him to present documents showing that the prime minister was the owner of an apartment in London as alleged by PTI.

He said the money channelled by Aleem Khan and Jahangir Tareen could have been utilised for the welfare of Pakistanis. Daniyal reminded that the committee formed to finalise the joint Terms of Reference (ToRs) for probe into Panama Papers under the Supreme Court but it couldn’t make progress because of PTI. He also asked Imran why he didn’t present himself for accountability in the cases probed by the Accountability Commission in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
