Scrutiny of nomination papers of 446 candidates finalised

CHAKWAL: The scrutiny of nomination papers of 446 candidates have been finalised for the reserved seats of the Local Government elections to be held here on November 8.
The final list of the candidates with symbols would be displayed on Oct 24. As many as 71 members would cast their votes to elect 24 members for the reserved seats. Total 41 candidates have filed their nomination papers for these 24 seats, including 15 women, three workers/peasants, one youth, four non-Muslims and one technocrat. The elections on the reserved seats for six municipal committees of the Chakwal district would be held on Nov 10 while 55 candidates have filed their nomination papers for the reserved seats of MCs of Chakwal district. The elections for the reserved seats of 71 union councils would be held on Nov 12 and 350 candidates have filed their nomination papers for them. The nomination papers of Wajahat Ali were rejected while the nomination papers of Asma Irfan of Tala Gang were also rejected by Returning Officer Asim Javed. The elections for the reserved seats have become one-sided as the biggest political force of Chakwal district Sardar Ghulam Abbas and his group has joined hands with the PML-N. Political analysts have predicted that more than 380 candidates would be elected unopposed unofficially on Oct 24.
