KHAR: The traders and farmers staged a protest against the excessive power blackouts and ban on transportation of fertilizers and blocked the Peshawar-Bajaur road for traffic here on Saturday.

The protesters blocked the road for an hour to press the government to accept their demands.

Chanting slogans against the prolonged power outages and ban on transportation of fertilizers to Bajaur Agency, the protesters gathered on the road and blocked it for hours.

President Nawagai Bazaar Maulana Khan Zeb and tribal elders Sheikh Jehan Zada, Maulana Gul Dad and others were leading the protesters.

Speaking on the occasion, they said that up to 22-hour long loadshedding was being carried out in parts of Bajaur tribal region.

They said the prolonged power outages had brought the business activities and routine life to a virtually halt in the region.

They urged the government to lift the ban on transportation of fertilizers, use of non-custom paid vehicles, bike-riding, reduce duration of power cuts, make operational the closed passport office, appoint specialist doctors at the Nawagai hospital, reopen
Pak-Afghan highway for traffic and resume construction work on road in Mohmand Agency.
