PMDC forms panel to monitor exam for foreign graduates

Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) President Professor Shabbir Ahmad Lehri on Friday formed a committee to monitor the conduct of the National Examination Board (NEB).

The NEB Step-III examination is scheduled to be held on February 11, 12 and 13 in collaboration with the University of Health Sciences, Lahore.

According to Professor Lehri, the committee will comprise Principal of the Allama Iqbal Medical College (Lahore) Professor Mehmood Shaukat, Vice Chancellor of the Fatima Jinnah Medical University (Lahore) Professor Sardar Fakhar Imam and Nishtar Medical College (Multan) principal Professor Kamran Salick.

“The committee will supervise the holding of the NEB examination and liaise with the relevant university to ensure transparency. It will ensure that the format of NEB Examination-Step III must be patient-based clinical oriented so that the assessment and the clinical competency and knowledge of candidates can be judged well. Besides, the committee will also make sure the transparent compilation of the exam results and arrange the lists of credible examiners in all the relevant subjects for the examination,” he told reporters here.

The PMDC president said there was a dire need to improve the working of the PMDC.

“During my term in office, there will be zero tolerance for corruption in PMDC, while the PMDC affairs will be streamlined on merit and transparently,” he said.

Professor Lehri said the NEB examination held for foreign graduates was a very important part of the PMDC and in order to improve the system. A committee has been constituted to monitor the NEB exam.

He said he had visited every section of the PMDC along with Executive Committee member Dr Amir Hussain Bendeshah to check the problems facing staff and doctors. 

“No nepotism or grouping will be tolerated in the office. All the staff members should put in their best efforts to improve the image of the PMDC in the eyes of the people. My office will remain open to all employees. Doctors are always welcome to discuss their problems with me,” he said, promising to make the PMDC a very vibrant, effective and friendly institution for the medical and dental practitioners.
