Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr Mukhtar Ahmad on Tuesday said many educational projects in the less developed areas have been initiated with the spirit to enlarge the scope of higher education in the country.

He said recently 48 to 50 development projects with the support of present government in Sindh, Balochistan, Fata and AJK have been initiated to provide educational opportunities to the students within the country and those achieving higher education abroad. The Chairman said that major natural disasters like earthquake, flood and terrorism in Pakistan had affected the ongoing projects of HEC in the past. He said after coming into power the PML-N government had focused on the promotion of education in the country as a result the role of HEC had been increased.

Dr Mukhtar said the Ph.D students who had completed their degrees in foreign universities through HEC scholarships were serving different sectors of the country. We are facilitating these highly educated degree holders sothat their experience and expertise be used for opening of new industries and development projects in the country Dr Mukhtar added.

He said that the Ministry of Planning and Reforms has given special directives that these highly qualified persons who had learnt technology in the foreign countries may be engaged to benefit from their higher learning. He said HEC has been providing additional funding to the new universities on priority basis to enhance their quality of education for an overall prosperity of the country.
