Tremor creates panic in Nawabshah

NAWABSHAH: Panic spread when Nawabshah and its surroundings were hit by a tremor.  The panic created traffic jams in many areas of the city.  The tremor hit Nawabshah at 6.28pm and was felt in different areas of the city including Manuabad, Gharibabad, Mohni Bazaar, Old city areas and Azim Colony.  Office of the deputy commissioner said that the jolt caused no loss to life or property.

 

Two militants killed, several arrested in Buner operation

MINGORA: Two militants were killed and several others arrested as the law enforcers completed a joint operation in Elam mountains in Buner district on Tuesday, sources said.They said that security forces and police had launched the operation on information about the presence of militants in Elam mountains.They said two militants and arrested were killed several others were arrested in the operation that continued for three days.The killed militants were identified as Adil and Iqbal Khan.

 

Man killed over land dispute in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A man was killed over a land dispute in Garah Sardar area of Kulachi on Tuesday, police sources said. They said that Rehmatullah and Faizullah allegedly opened fire at Juma Khan, Sher Khan and Rafique while they were busy irrigating their fields. As a result, Juma Khan was killed on the spot. Kulachi police on the complaint of Sher Khan registered a case against the accused. Separately, the police arrested a proclaimed offender, Abdul Manan, from his house and recovered two hand grenades, a Kalashnikov, pistol and ammunition from his possession. In another raid in the limits of Town Police Station, the police arrested a drug-peddler identified as Umar Qiaaz and recovered over a kilogram of hashish from his possession.  Police registered a case against the accused.

 

One shot dead in Malakand

BATKHELA: Unidentified gunmen allegedly shot dead a man in Palai area in Malakand Agency on Tuesday, official sources said. They said one Javed Khan was on his way in Bazdarra Bala in Palai area when unidentified motorcyclists fired at him, leaving him critically injured.  The injured was shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Dargai where he succumbed to his injuries. Motive behind the killing could not be ascertained.The body was handed over to the family members for burial. The Malakand Levies registered the case and started investigation.

 

‘Govt has failed to end corruption’

TOBA TEK SINGH: Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Liaqat Baloch has said that the government has completely failed to end corruption. Talking to newsmen at the residence of JI district ameer Maulana Rehmatullah Arshad at Gojra on Tuesday, Baloch alleged that the government had started new type of corruption by giving quota to the ruling party parliamentarians in government jobs. He claimed that the JI awareness campaign against corruption remained successful.

 

Price control committee formed in Hangu

HANGU: The district council on Tuesday took notice of the exorbitant prices of food and non-food items during Ramazan and constituted a committee to observe check on market.Speaking at the district council meeting here District Nazim Mufti Ubaidullah asked the district administration to assist the local government representatives in controlling the engineered scarcity as well as skyrocketing prices of edibles and non-edibles in the markets. —Correspondent

Utility Stores given Rs 17.5 billion

subsidy by government: MD

MUZAFFARGARH: Utility Stores Managing Director Syed Gulzar Shah Tuesday said the government had given Rs 17.5 billion subsidy to the Utility Stores in Ramazan. During his visit to Utility Stores established in Muzaffargarh, the MD said at 5,500 stores prices of 1,300 items were decreased upto 10 per cent. He said 300 Utility Stores were also established at Ramazan Bazaars. He asked the management of the stores to serve the people in a polite way. Regional Manager Utility Stores Malik Muhammad Hayat was also present on the occasion.

 

ECP adjourns PTI’s foreign funding case till 10th

ISLAMABAD: The ECP Tuesday adjourned the case of irregularities in the party funds of the PTI received from abroad until June 10. The ECP’s bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan heard the case filed in November last year by PTI’s former information secretary Akbar S. Babar, who had alleged corruption and violation of laws in collection of donations from overseas Pakistanis and managing party funds. During the course of hearing, counsel Akbar S. Babar argued that PTI was using delaying tactics and pointed out the absence of their lawyer. He requested the bench to issue production orders as all evidences of receiving funding from abroad are with the ECP now. To this, CEC summoned the PTI’s counsel on June 10 and adjourned the matter.

 

Zardari greets Muslims on Ramazan

ISLAMABAD: Former President Asif Ali Zardari has greeted the Muslims on the advent of Ramadan and urged them to pray for peace around the world. The month of fasting is also a month of self purification introspection and alms giving, he said in a message on the occasion and called upon the people to reach out to the poor the less fortunate, the needy and particularly to those who have been uprooted from their homes in recent times due to fight against militants and extremists and help in alleviating their miseries. The former President also asked people to pray for peace all over the world and especially within the Muslim world and in Pakistan.

Two bodies recovered in Hafizabad

HAFIZABAD: Two bodies, including a new-born baby, were recovered from two different places on Tuesday. According to police, a passer-by informed police that body of a new-born baby was lying in the Sem Nullah near Chhani Hoshnak Rai. Kaleke police recovered the body and moved to the DHQ Hospital and registered a case. According to another report, a body of a middle-aged villager was found floating in the canal near Bhoon Khurd. The Rescue-1122 fished out the body and shifted it to the DHQ Hospital. Police are investigating.

 

Body found in Quetta

QUETTA: Police have recovered a body of man from Kambrani Road area of provincial capital Tuesday. According to police sources, working on a tip-off a police party reached the site and took the body into custody which was dumped after killing by unknown men. The body was shifted to Bolan Medical Complex hospital where hospital sources said the victim had sustained bullets in his head and foot. The body was also identified as Dawood Khan son of Naik Muhammad and later the body was handed over to the heirs after legal formalities. Police registered a case and started investigation.

 

200 LHWs unpaid for two months

TOBA TEK SINGH. More than 200 lady health workers (LHWs) of Gojra tehsil have been without salaries for the last two months. Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, they said that they had repeatedly requested the Health Department officers to pay salaries but to no avail. They said that they had been facing a number of problems due to non-payment of salaries. They have demanded Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif order the Health EDO to pay salaries to them.
