Kiln workers continue sit-in

TOBA TEK SINGH: Brick kiln workers Saturday continued their sit-in for the second day outside district labour office complex pressing for their demands.

Addressing the protesters, Bhatta Mazdoor Union district president Baba Nazir Maseeh and general secretary Muhammad Shabbir announced changing the sit-in camp into a hunger strike camp.

They said no official came to their camp for talks. They said hunger strike will continue till death. Ashfaq Sajid, Sajida Perveen, Muhammad Ashfaq and Ashiq Masih also spoke.

They demanded implementation on government notification about their wage, 50 per cent raise in wages, five marla plots, social security and EOBI cards free of cost uniforms, books, bags, shoes and stationery for their kids.

FAIR PRICE SHOPS: The district government will establish 42 fair price shops in the district during Ramazan.

The DCO, who presided over the district Ramazan bazaar committee meeting, was told that five Ramazan bazaars will also be setup for the purchasers where commodities would be available at reduced prices and an agriculture fair price shop and a utility store will also be set up in each Ramazan Bazaar. The DCO said 266 metric tons quota of sugar had been arranged for Toba district and sugar will be sold at Rs 55 per kg while 10 kg flour bag will be available at Rs 290. Agriculture (EDO) Shahzad Sabir and ACs were also present.
