Woman injured by husband dies
LAHORE
A 35-year-old woman injured with a sharp-edged weapon by her husband over a domestic issue a few days ago died in hospital on Monday.
Police said Sumiya Bibi had exchanged some harsh words with her husband over an issue a few days ago which led her husband to stab her. She was admitted to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Police have registered a case.
suspended: Four police officials including Shalimar police investigation in charge were suspended for torturing two suspected men.
A case has also been registered against in charge Hammad Butt, ASI Farooq, Moharar Arif and Constable Sadiq. They have been sent on judicial remand. They had tortured suspects Zeeshan Maseeh and Faraz Maseeh. One of the suspects was beaten after tying to a cot. A suspect was beaten and naked by the policemen. When photos and the news about the incident appeared on the media, SSP Investigation Umar Salamat asked SP Investigation Ismael Kharak to conduct an inquiry. He conducted the inquiry and submitted a report to the SSP who in the light of the inquiry suspended the policemen.
Ramzan Maseeh, father of one of the suspects, while talking to the media had said that his son was picked up by the police during a raid on his house about ten days ago. He said they had been searching for his son for many days in different police stations including Mughalpura, Baghbanpura and Sadr. He said the police had also arrested three to four other people from his area. A man who was released by the police had told him that his son was in Shalimar Police custody and police were torturing him, he said and added when he went to meet his son, ASI Farooq demanded Rs 40,000 bribe from him. He said he gave the money to ASI, but he did not allow him to meet his son. He said no case was registered against his son.
SP Ismael Kharak said the suspects were hardened criminals. He said they were history-sheeters and involved in dozens of robberies in the city. He said suspect Faraz Maseeh was involved in a robbery-cum-murder case and had been jailed for at least 4-5 years.
He said torturing the suspects was abuse of power by Shalimar Investigation Police officials and they had been booked for the violation.
TECHNOLOGY: To review IT-based initiatives a meeting chaired by Punjab IGP Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera was held at Central Police Office. The meeting decided to introduce a centralised transfer policy which will be linked with CPO through main server. It will be helpful in future for IGP before issuing the orders of transfer / posting at any level and transparency could also be managed in this regard. The officers who have bad reputation, challaned or have bad service record could not get important postings. In this way the approach culture will also be eliminated from the department. AIG Legal, Kamran Adil, told the IGP a software has been designed for the maintenance of computerised record of all pending cases in courts about the complaints of the police officers / officials. This software will also enable the department for the speedy implementation on courts orders and all delay tactics in the regard could also be abolished.
The provincial police chief also directed the officers to utilise the latest technology during the investigation procedures. On this occasion, SSP Investigation, Waqas-ul-Hassan said a Palm Scanner has been purchased for the police department which will be used on trial basis in jails and later the same will be provided to all jails and districts. Keeping in view the heat wave and scorching sun, the IGP directed the DIG Operations to provide net P-caps to the operational staff and to change the uniform of Dolphin Force in this regard.
FLOOD PREPAREDNESS: The Punjab Emergency Service Rescue 1122 flood preparedness exercise of seven districts of Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Hafizabad, MB Din, Gujranwala and Gujrat at Bela Pulli, Jhelum River ended under the supervision of Punjab Emergency Service Director General Dr Arshad Zia and Assistant District Collector General (ADCG), Jhelum, Imran Raza Abbasi and District Emergency Officer, Jhelum, Dr Faisal Mehmood. Earlier, Director General Dr Arshad Zia reviewed all arrangements and briefed all the district officers to ensure swift and prompt emergency response by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) so that flood rescue operation could be successfully managed to minimise the damage without any loss of life. This purposeful exercise was conducted to check preparedness level, response strategy and coordination of rescue teams with other departments to deal with any flood emergency in upcoming monsoon season. Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi team won competition of victim evacuation from river Jhelum received first prize and Rescue 1122 Gujrat left behind all teams in 40 Horse Power Boat Competition and received first prize. It is also pertinent to mention that host team Rescue 1122, Jhelum, won two first prize in two boat competition of 15 Horse Power and 25 Horse Power. Dr Arshad Zia and Assistant District Collector General Imran Raza Abbasi distributed prizes amongst the winning teams.
ACCIDENTS: At least 723 accidents were reported in Provincial Monitoring Cell of Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours in which 8 lives were lost and 569 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant districts. Some 239 victims who sustained minor injuries were discharged after giving them first aid.
