CDA to improve directorate on modern lines: Maroof

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will improve, strengthen and further upgrade the Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate in line with modern techniques to bring it at par with the international standards and special training programmes for firefighters.

CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal said this while addressing a ceremony organised by CDA here at Fire Headquarters Buildings in connection with International Firefighter Day 2016.

On the occasion, Member Administration Amer Ali Ahmed, Member Environment Sanaullah Aman, officers of National Disasters Management Authority (NDMA), Civil Defence, senior officers and officials of different formations of the civic body were also present.

Maroof Afzal said that purpose to observe Fire Fighters Day is to highlight the sacrifices of firefighters who render their services in emergency situation to save the life of people.

He said that Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate of the Authority is equipped with latest firefighting devices and well trained staff and has proved its professional abilities during several untoward incidents Pakistan and in different rescue exercises in outside world.

He said that though the fire and rescue staff of the authority has been trained to tackle any emergency, however, latest training courses would be arranged to further uplift their professional capabilities.

He said that the comprehensive awareness campaign to sensitise the citizens about the safety measures and techniques to deal with natural calamities would be launched in the city.

During the ceremony, smartly dressed contingent of firefighters presented guard of honour and March Past to the chief guest and other guest of honour.

Furthermore, physical demonstration to extinguish the fire as well as rescue drill was also conducted to rescue the injured trapped in high-rise buildings.

The special trained sniffer dogs also demonstrated the search of people under the debris.

Maroof Afzal distributed certificates among the best performing rescue workers and firefighters.
