Defending the earth
By our correspondents
April 29, 2016
This refers to the article, ‘Earth’s defenders’ (April 27) by Silvio Carrillo and Jeff Conant. The writers have wisely discussed the importance of the motherland, the threats posed by different mafias to ecology and the sacrifices people have made to defend it.
Our government should facilitate the UN’s Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) that works on crosscutting issues that affect people’s lives and livelihoods, poverty alleviation and finance environmental projects. The government should know that roads, overhead bridges, underpasses and multi-story buildings cannot bring prosperity to the nation. People also need well-equipped hospitals and healthy food for survival.
