PESHAWAR: Speakers at a seminar have said the young generation needs to follow the philosophy of Allama Iqbal to make the country prosperous and stable.

They were speaking at a seminar hosted by the Pakistan Study Centre, University of Peshawar, to mark the death anniversary of the great poet-philosopher.

Aftab Khan, Assistant Professor, Government College of Management Sciences Peshawar, and Director, Pakistan Study Centre, Professor Dr Fakhr-ul-Islam, were the main speakers.

Reading out his paper, Aftab Khan said Allama Iqbal was an avid supporter of the united India in the beginning but later switched over to Muslim nationalism. He said the negative attitude of the Indian National Congress was the reason for that transformation.

The researchers said Allama Iqbal had cordial relations with Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and it was him who persuaded the latter to come back to India in 1934 and play a role in the freedom struggle.

Aftab Khan said that Allama Iqbal contributed a lot to the freedom movement in the capacity of political leader.
