Governor allocates seats for tribal students enrolled at Gomal varsity

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan has said that education is indispensible for achieving a respectable position in the comity of nations and inducing development and prosperity in society.
He expressed these views while addressing the 9th Convocation of Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, and district and high court bar associations here on Wednesday.
In address at the varsity, the governor said knowledge is the main step for the peace and prosperity, adding that society attains the goals of prosperity, peace and development through the quality of education and innovation.
Sardar Mahtab said democracy has been strengthened in the state due to the movement of the lawyers against the dictator. He said the lawyers’ movement has set the direction of the democracy in the state.
He said a time has come when all the institutions of the state share the common responsibility for the prosperity and development of the country in accordance with the established democratic values.
The governor said societies are strengthened and promoted through the rule of law and administration of justice. He urged the youth to play a constructive role in development of the country.
He said that militancy, lawlessness, despondency and sense of deprivation were not the destiny of our coming generation but rather they need favourable environment for a better future.
The governor announced endowment fund of Rs10 million for the tribal students studying in the university. He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had also released a handsome amount of one billion rupees for the Gomal University.
The governor also announced Rs50,000 for tribal students who got gold medal in their respective field of education and allocation of five seats for tribal students in each department of the varsity.
Up to 150 gold medals and 25 PhD degrees were awarded to the students. The ceremony was also attended by high ranking civil and military officials, academicians, students and their parents.
The governor also visited the District Bar Association Dera Ismail Khan and addressed the members. He appreciated the sacrifices of lawyers for the supremacy of democracy and rule of law. Sardar Mahtab announced Rs1 million each for the district and high court bar associations.
