The National University of Modern Languages (NUML) arranged a two-day Annual Book Fair 2015 to revive the tradition of book-reading among students, says a press release.
The Annual Book Fair was arranged by the NUML Office of Research, Innovations and Commercialisation (NORIC) in which a total of 16 book publishers showcased a wide variety of books on the topics, including literature, linguistics, management sciences, engineering, information technology, international relations, mass communication, Islamic studies, history, economics, corporate social responsibility, Pak-China relations and translation and interpretation.
The chief guest, Higher Education Commission Executive Director Dr. G. Raza Bhatti, along with NUML Rector Major General (r) Zia-ud-Din Najam, inaugurated the book fair. While NUML Director General Brigadier (r) Azam Jamal, the registrar, directors and other staff members also attended the opening ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, HEC Executive Director Raza Bhatti said there was no greater pleasure than reading books in one’s leisure time. The current boost in technology has made it easier for students to get access to the e-books of their interest but
the pleasure and the contentment connected with the hard copy of a book was inexplicable.
Sharing his views on the occasion, NUML Rector Zia-ud-Din Najam said that this is NUML’s second book fair. The NUML is committed to bring students again in libraries rather than wasting their time on cell phones or other new era gadgets. He said that the NUML is not against the modern devices but their negative use has badly affected the habit of reading books. “These kind of book fairs can play a key role for revival of library culture and hence we are committed to bring book-reading culture in our university”, he said.
Gulfam Khan Khalid, manager of the university industry linkages of NORIC, said that the purpose of the book fair was to promote academic and non-academic reading habits among students.
A large number of students visited book fair on the first day and showed their interest in different books. The Annual Book Fair will continue till today (Tuesday).
