CM orders crackdown on shoddy edible traders
Orders cancellation of the licences of flour mills supplying substandard flour

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered indiscriminate crackdown against the elements producing and selling substandard and harmful edible oil and said that those playing with human lives deserve no leniency.
He said that those involved in the evil trade of producing and selling substandard and unhygienic edible oil, ghee and other eatable items should be dealt with an iron hand. He said that such elements should be behind the bars and deterrent action should be taken against them. The chief minister also ordered to cancel the licences of flour mills supplying substandard flour and said these mills had no right to carry out their business and action should be taken against them as per law after meeting all legal requirements.
He issued these instructions while addressing a meeting regarding Ramazan Package through a video link at Civil Secretariat, here Tuesday.
Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that relief had been provided to the people through historic Ramazan Package and implementation of effective mechanism for supply of quality essential items, fruits and vegetables at reasonable rates in Ramazan Bazaars and open markets was continuing. He said that minister, secretaries and other authorities concerned should continue to visit markets and bazaars along with Ramazan bazaars for ensuring availability of quality food items at reasonable rate.
He directed that provincial administration should continue to play an active role for the provision of benefits of Ramazan Package to the masses and indiscriminate action should be taken against the elements involved in short weighing. He said that in view of the increased demand of sugar in Ramazan Bazaars, successful negotiations had been held with Pakistan Sugar Mills Association and sugar quota for Ramazan Bazaars had been increased by 5,000 metric ton and Sugar Mills Association had agreed to supply sugar at the previous rate.
He appreciated the performance of Punjab Food Authority, regarding effective action against hotels, restaurants, bakeries, shops and factories producing food items and said that Punjab Food Authority was now playing an active role and the process should continue on permanent basis.
Health sector: Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting here Tuesday which reviewed various projects of Health Department especially performance of Recep Tayyip Erdogan Trust Hospital Muzaffargarh.
Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that revolutionary measures were being taken for the provision of quality public health facilities in Punjab. He said that development of health sector was the priority of the government and billions of rupees were being spent on the improvement of public health facilities.
He said Recep Tayyip Erdogan Trust Hospital set up in district Muzaffargarh with the cooperation of Turkey was providing international standard health facilities to the patients, as the hospital was a splendid gift for the people of South Punjab and its model would be replicated in other government hospitals of Punjab under a phased programme.
He said the hospital set up at Lidher, Badian Road would also be run on the same model. He said that Lidher, Badian Road Hospital would be equipped with state-of-the-art treatment facilities and this project would result in availability of quality healthcare facilities to the people of the area. He welcomed the hospital and medical college project by philanthropists near Jubilee Town.
