LGH unit starts angioplasty

Post Graduate Medical Institute/Lahore General Hospital (PGMI/LGH) Principal Prof Dr Anjam Habib Vohra has said radiology unit of the hospital has started angioplasty and stenting of lower limbs to ensure flow of blood, which will save patients of diabetes from amputation of their lower limbs and help in the treatment of gangrene.
According to a press release issued on Thursday, the principal informed a team of doctors headed by Dr Shahzad and Dr Umair Rasheed was working on this project.
Dr Shahzad said the flow of blood especially the lower limbs of diabetes and hypertension patients become impeded due to which their feet and fingers become numb and have to be amputated due to gangrene. He said a limb is amputated of a diabetes patient in the world after every 30 second and 24 percent diabetes patients have to undergo this operation.
