The local government department and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Saturday razed to the ground three illegal marriage halls in FB Area which had been built on playgrounds and amenity plots.
Bagh-e-Saman Marriage Lawn in Gulberg and NED Marriage Hall in Azizabad were demolished because they were constructed on welfare plots, according to KMC spokesperson Bashir Sadozai.
Another was razed because it was built on an amenity plot, he added.
The action was taken under the supervision of Sindh local bodies and information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon while KMC Administrator Roshan Ali Sheikh was also present on the occasion.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, the minister said encroachment on government land, amenity plots, playgrounds and parks will not be tolerated and action will be taken against criminals involved in land grabbing.
He said the campaign for a clean, green and peaceful Sindh which began in February will continue till the last encroached land was recovered from land grabbers and the each and every one of illegally-built mall is demolished.
He said the Supreme Court had ordered to remove all encroachment from government land and amenity plots and the provincial government would do its level best to implement the order.
He warned all land grabbers to be ready for action and said criminal cases would be registered against them.
Moreover, said the minister, action will also be taken against ghost and corrupt employees in the civic bodies. He claimed that the government had issued policy guidelines to control the price hike.
The KMC spokesperson further said that all construction on welfare and amenity plots was being demolished in a phase-wise operation and a list of illegal marriage halls had been prepared for the purpose.
