A Japanese dolls exhibition was inaugurated here at the Japan Information and Culture Center on Monday.
The show titled ‘Dolls of Japan - Shapes of Prayer, Embodiment of Love’ is co-organised by the Japan Foundation, Consulate General of Japan and Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association.
The exhibition would remain open for public till March 7.
Speaking to a large number of guests after opening the show, Japan’s Consul General in Karachi, Akira Ouchi, said, “The purpose of showcasing this exhibition is to give the visitors a close glimpse of the versatility and individuality of the traditional and cultural life of Japanese people.”
“Dolls have been important to Japanese culture for centuries; each doll has its own distinct meaning and purpose and is deeply connected to daily life.”
More than 80 dolls have been displayed at the expo, presenting a diverse and intricate ensemble and marking the height of craftsmanship that is considered an important example of fine decorative art in Japan.
