NAB files Rs48.2m reference against Railways officials

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed corruption reference of Rs48.2 million in the accountability court Lahore against officials of Pakistan Railways commonly known as ‘pig iron case’.
The accused named Zahoor Khattak, then Chief Controller of Purchase, Saeed Akhtar, ex-general manager (operation), Sameeullah Khan, ex-chief controller of stores, Behzad Mehmood, ex-chief mechanical engineer, Yawar Abbas, ex-financial advisor and chief accounts officer, Aminuddin, ex-deputy manager accounts Pakistan Steel Mills, zonal officer, Lahore, Suhail Sana Qazi, ex-deputy chief engineer/in-charge Pakistan Steel Mills, zonal office, Lahore, Jawad Ahmad, Manager M/s Pak Steel Traders, Lahore and Zeeshan Ahmad, contractor/proprietor, M/s Pak Steel Traders, Lahore were alleged for misuse of authority, violation of Public Procurement Rules, 2004, without advertising the tender notice and the officials of Pakistan Railways in connivance with the contractor namely M/s Pak Steel Traders, Lahore awarded contract for procurement of 500 M ton pig iron to M/s Pak Steel Traders, Lahore thus causing loss of millions of rupees to the national exchequer.
