PIMS striving hard to become best hospital in Asia

Islamabad : Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) is striving hard to become the best hospital in Asia and for the purpose, the administration is expecting speedy release of funds for the approved projects particularly regarding replacement of equipment in various departments.

We have achieved another milestone by getting approved four of our development projects by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Tuesday worth around Rs4.6 billion though we are waiting for release of funds for as many as six projects approved last year, said Executive Director at PIMS Dr. Amjad Mehmood while talking to ‘The News’ on Wednesday.

Giving details, he said the CDWP has approved a project worth Rs200 million for up-gradation of the existing facilities at the hospital along with approving another project worth Rs316.733 million for purchase of MRI related equipment for Radiology Department of the hospital.

He added the PIMS has presented a project worth Rs222.062 in the CDWP meeting for establishment of female doctors’ hostel having 102 rooms that has also been approved while the fourth project approved is for extension of Mother and Child Healthcare Centre at PIMS that would cost around Rs3886.567 million.

He said that nearly 90 per cent of the cost of MCH extension project, around Rs3.5 billion would be provided by the government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) while the remaining amount that is less than Rs400 million would be provided by the government of Pakistan.

I have expressed to the prime minister of Pakistan Imran Khan that the PIMS would be the best hospital in Asia in a year if the government continues its support and after approval of these projects, I hope we would be able to achieve our target, said Dr. Amjad.

He, however, added that to achieve target of becoming the best hospital in Asia, the PIMS needs release of funds on urgent basis for its six projects already approved. The projects awaiting release of funds are rather smaller in nature and cost around Rs240 million, he said.

The projects are related to replacement of equipment in eye department, ENT, Medical ICU along with equipment for disposal of hospital waste and for equipment of dialysis machines in Nephrology Department of the hospital, he said.
