ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif have asked the nation to follow vision and teachings of great poet, philosopher Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal for a tolerant and moderate society.
In their messages on the occasion of Iqbal Day both president and prime minister have urged the nation to seek guidance from the life and teachings of Pakistan’s national poet Allama Iqbal and help to build a society that is tolerant, hard working and has unquenchable thirst for knowledge.
The premier said that the day is observed in his remembrance as it was he who laid the foundations, that led to materialisation of his dream of Pakistan. He said the day demands that we follow in the light of his great philosophical thought. He said that Allama Muhammad Iqbal regretted the lack of will and desire to excel amongst the Muslims and urged them through his poetry to rise to the top through sheer hard work, sincerity and devotion.
He said Allama Iqbal had a vision of a society that was tolerant, democratic, independent and believed in hard work and sought knowledge.
The present times, he said, fully endorse that the vision of Allama Iqbal was perfectly true. He said, “it is time that we try to understand Iqbal’s philosophy and realise that our salvation lies in seeking knowledge and spreading the message of love, understanding and tolerance.”
The 138th birth anniversary of national poet and philosopher Allama Dr Iqbal would be observed across the country with great zeal and fervour.
Allama Iqbal born in November 9, 1877 was the leader of Pakistan Movement who conceived the idea of Pakistan.
Various literary, educational, political, social and cultural organisations have arranged special programmes to mark the day in a befitting manner by paying homage to the national poet.
The main function of Iqbal Day would be held at Aiwan-e-Sadr. President Mamnoon Hussain will preside.
