ISLAMABAD: President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on his way back from Indonesia, will be stopping over at Islamabad on Saturday, and during the stopover he will hold a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
“The two leaders would hold discussions on enhancement of bilateral relations, and global and international issues of mutual interest. This would be his first visit to Islamabad as the president of Turkey,” spokesman at the Foreign Office said in a statement, not revealing the amount of time that the Turkish leader will spend in Pakistan.
Erdogan had earlier visited Lahore and Islamabad in December 2013 as the prime minister of the Republic of Turkey. It was his seventh visit to Pakistan in the last 10 years, signifying substantial growth andstrengthening of relations under his government.
“Pakistan deeply appreciates the personal contribution to the growth and expansion of Pakistan-Turkey relations under the sagacious leadership of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Pakistan’s relations with Turkey have seen tremendous improvement and dynamism in the last few years. Since the assumption of office by Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s Government, bilateral relations have acquired a new direction and dynamism. Most importantly, there is eagerness on both sides to translate our historic and cordial relations into a durable strategic and economic partnership”, added the spokesman.
