ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday issued a press release ending the nine-month boycott of Geo and the Jang Group.
The press release issued by the PTI Secretary Information Shireen Mazari said, “On the request of Geo-Jang group, PTI had been monitoring the shift to fairer reporting on PTI and an end to personal attacks on the chairman in the Group’s print and electronic outputs, over the last three weeks. It was found that there had been a shift towards a more balanced reporting on PTI.”
The press release added, “The PTI leadership also stood by its reasons for announcing the Geo-Jang boycott. The PTI had also repeatedly made it clear that its position on Geo-Jang Group had nothing to do with the journalists and employees of the Group.”
Decision to this effect was taken at the PTI core committee meeting held on February 14.The PTI spokesperson also included reiteration of Imran Khan condemning the attacks on Geo and any other journalist by anyone, including the PTI supporters.
“In the light of the above factors, it was decided in the last core committee to allow our selected spokespersons to begin appearing on Geo talk shows and give beepers to Geo on PTI positions on national issues/unfolding events,” said the press release.
Meanwhile, a committee has been formed with the central information secretary as its coordinator to monitor all media outputs and regularly assess how PTI’s positioning is being reflected and advise the PTI leadership on any future course of action.
