This refers to the news report, ‘CEC rejects Imran’s demand to dismiss four ECP members’ (September 3). Imran Khan has again taken a U-turn. One wonders what he is thinking. For months, Imran had been claiming that the Election Commission was incapable of conducting free and fair elections, but after meeting with the chief election commissioner, he expressed satisfaction over measures being taken by the ECP to conduct transparent polls in the future, adding that he has been assured that the mass irregularities that took place in the May 2013 general elections will not be repeated.
Meanwhile, Imran also repeated his demand for the ECP members to resign, saying that the Judicial Commission report regarding rigging and the subsequent decisions of election tribunals over three of the four constituencies whose results were challenged by the PTI show the ECP members’ inability to conduct free and fair polls. Logic isn’t one of Imran’s strong points. Instead of the promised change, all Imran can change is his stance.
