It is a disturbing reality that the majority of schools – both private and state-run – are lagging far behind a handful of educational institutions catering to the super-rich. The steep difference in learning experience and quality of education translates into unequal distribution of opportunities to children.
One reason for this steep gap is because education continues to remain an underserved national responsibility of Pakistan. Some seven million to 10.5 million children are out of school in Pakistan. The majority of those attending school are not learning in a satisfactory manner. What is most discomforting is that despite the availability of technology, services like broadband are not being tapped. Our telecom companies should come up with programmes that offer tailored e-learning solutions for kids.
