Three die in road accidents

LAHORE

Three persons lost their lives in different road accidents on Saturday.

A youth was killed by a speeding truck in Shera Kot area. Police arrested the truck driver who was later identified as Mansoor Shah. The victim identified as Yasar of Railway Roads was crossing the road near Babu Sabu Chowk when a rashly driven truck ran over him resulting into his death. 

Meanwhile, one Abdul Rashid was killed by an unidentified car in Manawan area. The victim hailed from Quetta. Similarly, one Akhtar, 48, was killed by a rashly driven car in Kahna area. 

Bodies were shifted to morgue.

Factory fire: Four labourers received burns when a fire broke out in a shoe factory near Timber Market on Saturday.

Cause of fire was said to be short circuit. The firefighters rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire after hectic efforts. At least four labourers received minor burns in the said incident who were taken to a local hospital and discharged after treatment.

passing out: The 19th Passing out Ceremony of rescuers from different districts of Punjab was held at Emergency Services Academy on Saturday.

These rescuers have been trained to strengthen the Rescue 1122 Service in Bahawalpur, Bhakkar, Dere Ghazi Khan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Jhang, Khanewal, Khushab, Lahore, Mandi Bahuddin, Mianwali, Multan, Layyah, Rahimyar Khan, Rajanpur, Rawalpindi, Attock, Nankana Sahab, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Sialkot and Murree.

The ceremony was attended by a Member Scottish Parliament Belle Hanzala Malik, Additional Secretary Home, Director General, Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122), and other dignitaries from different walks of life. At the welcome address, the DG (Rescue 1122) congratulated the rescuers on the completion of their training and thanked Scottish Parliamentarian Belle Hanzala Malik for extending sincere cooperation for the establishment of modern fire service in Pakistan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Scottish Parliamentarian said rescuers were the brave sons of soil who put their lives in danger to save others’ lives. He asserted that he himself witnessed the excellent professionalism during floods in Punjab, especially in southern belt in 2010, 2014 and 2015.

He also expressed pleasure over the successful performance/ training of emergency management during the mock exercises of deep well rescue, water rescue, firefighting, urban search and rescue, rescue from confined spaces during smoke, rescue from height and medical emergency management.
