Consul general visits college fair of US Educational Foundation in Pakistan

US Consul General Brian Heath in Karachi visited a college fair on Tuesday featuring representatives from 22 American universities as part of the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) and EducationUSA’s eighth South Asia Tour to promote US study among Pakistani students.
The tour’s stop in Karachi features a college fair, visits to local high schools and colleges, and seminars for education professionals and prospective students.
“There are currently over 11,000 Pakistani students studying in American colleges and universities,” said Heath. “While that’s a great number, we want to continue to see more Pakistanis choose the United States to pursue their higher education.”
The South Asia Tour has more than doubled in size since USEFP first hosted the event in spring 2011 with 11 participating US universities. It is one of many services EducationUSA at USEFP offers to assist students interested in applying to or learning about US colleges and universities.
“Studying in the United States is an experience that speaks to who you are as an individual,” said EducationUSA Advising Manager Umair Khan.
“Living in another country is challenging and requires courage and a positive attitude. It isn’t just about the tangible US degree or certificate. Sometimes developing these personal traits can be more influential than your degree.”
The tour includes representatives from Arizona State University, Colorado State University, Emporia State University, Foothill and De Anza Colleges, Hiram College, Iowa State University, Luther College, Minerva School at KGI, Minot State University, Northeastern Illinois University, Old Dominion University, Savannah College of Art and Design, St. John’s University, St. Peter’s University, State University of New York (Plattsburgh), University of Bridgeport, University of Buffalo (the State University of New York), University of Arizona, University of Kentucky, University of Northern Iowa, Valparaiso University, Western Kentucky University, and Wichita State University.
USEFP is a bi-national commission established in 1950 by the governments of Pakistan and the United States. It is one of 49 Fulbright commissions located throughout the world.
