Principals seek opinion on payments of strike days
Islamabad
The government educational institutions functioning in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) have sought the opinion of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) on the payment of salary to daily-wage teachers for the days they were on strike lately.
On January 28, such teachers had resumed duty after boycotting the duty for more than a month against the non-payment of salary and for regularisation of services.
The development came as Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry promised the announcement of a policy within a month about the future of the FDE employees working on the basis of daily wage.
Such daily wagers total around 2,000.
The CADD oversees all government schools and colleges in Islamabad through the FDE.
In recent communications, principals of certain model colleges formally asked the relevant FDE director for advice on the issue of salary payment to the striking daily wagers of their educational institutions.
They said after remaining on strike from November 16, 2015, to January 28, 2016, for several reasons, the daily-wage teaching staff members had resumed duty.
The principals said the daily wagers demanded payment of salary for the days they absented themselves from duty due to strike and therefore, the FDE should issue advice or directives on the matter for compliance.
The daily wagers insisted they went on strike to claim own rights and therefore, the salary for the strike duration should be paid in full.
They demanded the CADD issue directives to all model colleges through the FDE without delay for such payments.
