SRINAGAR: The action against Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leaders and activists, repeated police raids on District President Srinagar and Gandarbal, Raja Merajuddin's residence and arrest of youths and students from the villages and towns was termed as the worst kind of state terrorism.
Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Geelani condemned it in strong words. Just before leaving for New Delhi, Geelani said in a video message that the process of unwanted and unnecessary arrests by the government have spread a wave of terror among the masses and it is beyond understanding of anyone what actually they want by doing such things.
He said that the police, since last one and a half month, have started a fresh process of arrests, in which the common youth and students are taken into custody on regular basis, while the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat is the prime target. About a dozen officials of this organisation have been booked under this black law PSA so far and the residences of many activists are often raided by the police.
On Saturday morning the police personnnel of Nowgam police station raided the residence of senior Hurriyat leader and central official Raja Merajuddin Kalwal. Although he was not present at home at that time but the police raids on daily bases is badly affecting mental health of his children and they feel extreme harassment, which is also affecting their studies.
While demanding immediate halt to this process Geelani said this process will have very serious consequences and it will increase political uncertainty and instability in the state.
Addressing the policy makers of India the pro-freedom leader said they should think with cool mind over their policy with regard to Kashmir since 1947 till date. They should calculate what did they achieve by doing all this. Neither has the nature and the status of Kashmir issue changed over these years nor could they succeed in changing the hearts and minds of the people of this troubled region, Geelani said. He further said that Kashmir is a human issue and it cannot be addressed by using force or power. The use of force would never solve the issue, instead, it worsens the situations. This policy is becoming a big hurdle in development and prosperity of India itself.
While demanding immediate release of all political prisoners of Kashmir, the Hurriyat Chairman said the unabated and often use of the PSA like the lawless law against the respectable citizens of the state, is grave human rights violation and has no constitutional or moral justifications.
