Islamabad: The government primary schools in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) have over 700 teaching vacancies, adversely affecting the learning of students.
The capital’s all government schools are overseen by the Federal Directorate of Education.
According to a relevant FDE official, 720 posts from BPS-19 to BPS-9 have long been lying vacant at the local primary schools.
Of these vacancies, 10 are of principal (BPS-19), 21 of headmaster, headmistress or vice principal (BPS-18), 29 of deputy headmaster or deputy headmistress (BPS-17), three of senior teacher (BPS-17), 104 of secondary school teacher (BPS-17), 12 of senior computer teacher (BPS-17), 255 of trained graduate teacher (BPS-16), 64 of physical training instructors (BPS-16), one of junior lady teacher (BPS-16), seven of drawing master or mistress (BPS-16), 211 of elementary school teacher (BPS-14), and two of trained under graduate teachers (BPS-14).
The official insisted that the vacant posts would be filled in the near future. “The requisition for the filling of vacancies of BPS-16 and above is being processed by the Federal Public Service Commission and those for BPS-14 positions by the FDE in consultation with the Capital Administration and Development Division, which oversees it,” he said.
