Youth attempts self-immolation as beloved refuses marriage

GUJRANWALA: A 25-year-old youth attempted self-immolation over a marriage issue here on Wednesday.
Muhammad Ali of Noshera Road fell in love with Shahnaz and wanted to contract marriage with her but she refused. It dejected Ali and he attempted self-immolation by dousing himself in petrol. As a result, he received serious burns. He was shifted to the DHQ Hospital.
SMO held for corruption

GUJRANWALA: The ACE arrested a senior medical officer of the THQ Hospital for corruption here on Wednesday.
In an application to the ACE, Mian Azhar alleged that Senior Medical Officer Shahbaz Elahi Cheema had received Rs 50,000 from him for providing him a job of naib qasid in the hospital. Now, he was now demanding Rs 20,000 more for the purpose. To it, the ACE officer along with the judicial magistrate raided the hospital and caught the senior medical officer red-handed when he was receiving Rs 20,000 from the applicant.
ARMS LICENSES FOR SCHOOLS: On the directions of the Punjab Home Department, DCO Muhammad Amir Jaan has issued arms licenses to 185 A-category government institutions.
Meanwhile, the DCO has asked the private schools to submit applications for licenses, which will be forwarded to the CPO office for verification by special branch. After approval of the special branch, the schools will be issued armed licenses.
Murderer, rapist of three-year-old girl hanged in jail

GUJRANWALA: A murder convict was hanged in the Central Jail here on Wednesday.
The convict, Nazir Ahmad, had killed three-year-old Aleena after raping her on March 29, 2008. The body of the convict was handed over to his relatives after legal completing formalities.
Demo against Wapda privatisation, murder of PIA officials

GUJRANWALA: A large number of Gepco workers staged a demonstration against privatisation of Wapda and murder of PIA officials here on Thursday.
They were chanting slogans against the government. They criticised the government and said that torture and firing on peaceful protesters was not tolerable. They said that privatisation of Wapda was unjustified and it would result in rise in electricity tariff.
